How to Know if Someone Has Blocked You on WhatsApp

How can I tell if someone has blocked me on WhatsApp?

 
Look for the Last Seen Timestamp. If someone has blocked you, you cannot see their Last Seen Timestamp or their Online status in the chat window.
Look for two checkmarks. Whenever you message this contact, it displays one checkmark (message has been sent to server) but never two checkmarks (message has been delivered to the recipient's phone).
Look for profile changes. You have knowledge that they have updated their profile (name or profile picture), but you cannot see the changes. Their profile never changes to you.
Put together the signs. If more than one of these indicators apply, this user may have blocked you from contacting them.
WhatsApp intentionally makes it vague whether someone has blocked you or not, because it's a violation of their privacy for you to know. The best thing to do is to ignore them and give them their space, and perhaps to block them as well if that will help you deal with the temptation of contacting them.

Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked you will always show one check mark (message sent), and never show a second check mark (message delivered).

To block a contact on your Android phone:

Open WhatsApp and go to your Chats screen.
Tap the Menu Button > Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked Contacts.
This page displays all contacts that you have blocked.
Tap the Add blocked contacts icon in the top right.


If you would like to unblock someone, simply long-press the contact in the Blocked Contacts screen and select Unblock.

To block an unknown contact, simply open the chat conversation, scroll to the top, then tap Block.

What are those check marks next to my messages?

We are glad you asked. These checkmarks are actually very important since they are indicators that acknowledge the delivery of a message. Here is what they mean:

 - message successfully delivered to the server.
 - message successfully delivered to the phone of your chat partner. Note: this does not indicate that the message was read, just that it was delivered.
Also note that in a group chat you will only see one check mark indicating that the message was successfully delivered to the server.
If you only see a single check mark next to your message, there is likely nothing wrong with WhatsApp or your phone. There may be several reasons why your message is delivered to the server, but not to your chat partner:

Their phone might be turned off or their phone's battery might be dead.
They could be sleeping, especially if they live in a different time zone.
They may not be connected to the internet (for example, if they are in an elevator, roaming or have no data credits).
They might have seen the notification on the screen, but did not launch the app to acknowledge message receipt (very common in case of iPhone recipients).

On iPhone, there are two ways to block a contact:

Use the Block button which is displayed when you get a message from somebody who is not in your address book:

Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked, then tap the Add New button to add contacts from your address book to your Blocked list.

To unblock a contact, open the Blocked list with the above steps, slide your finger to the left on the contact you wish to unblock, then tap the Unblock button.

To block an unknown number that has sent you a message

Open the chat with that number.
Tap the three dots in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
Select block and tap yes.
To block a contact

In the main chats screen, tap the three dots in the bottom right hand corner.
Select settings.
Tap contacts > blocked contacts.
Tap the (+) to select contacts to block.
To unblock a contact

Follow the steps above to enter the blocked list screen.
Long press the contact you wish to unblock.
Choose unblock.
